What Is an Online Tajweed Course?

Tajweed is the set of rules that govern the correct pronunciation of the Holy Quran, so each Arabic letter is articulated from its proper point while the rhythm and flow of recitation are preserved. An online Tajweed course teaches these rules step by step, through live one-to-one classes with a qualified tutor.

The Three Course Levels

Each level builds on the last, so you progress from the core rules to full, confident application.
BEGINNER

LEVEL 01

Essential Tajweed Rules

This stage is for students who are beginning the formal study of Tajweed. Students consolidate fluent, accurate reading and learn the core foundational rules of Tajweed, including Noon Sakinah and Tanween, Meem Sakinah, Madd (elongation), and Lam Shamsiyyah and Lam Qamariyyah, while improving accuracy and fluency.
PREREQUISITES
  • Able to read the Quran (e.g. completed Quran Reading with Tajweed)
  • Basic familiarity with Arabic letters and Harakat
INTERMEDIATE

LEVEL 02

Intermediate Tajweed and Pronunciation

This stage focuses on refined pronunciation and a deeper understanding of how Tajweed is applied during recitation. Students study the articulation points (Makharij) and the characteristics of letters (Sifaat), the rules of stopping and pausing (Waqf), and the relationships between Arabic sounds, adding greater accuracy while reciting.
PREREQUISITES
  • Able to read directly from the Quran fluently
  • Familiarity with the core Tajweed rules from the basic level
ADVANCED

LEVEL 03

Advanced Tajweed and Applied Recitation

This advanced stage helps students reach a high level of accuracy, fluency and confidence in Quran recitation through the full practical application of Tajweed across complete Quranic passages. Students analyse Tajweed rules within verses and refine advanced Waqf and Ibtida techniques.

CURRICULUM

The articulation points of the letters and their characteristics, the foundation of correct pronunciation.

Noon Sakinah and Tanween

The four rules that govern them: Izhar, Idgham, Iqlab, and Ikhfa.

Its three rules: Ikhfa Shafawi, Idgham Shafawi, and Izhar Shafawi.

Madd (Elongation)

The types of Madd and how long each one is held.

Qalqalah and Ghunnah

The echoing sound of the Qalqalah letters and the nasalization (Ghunnah) that accompanies certain letters.

Waqf and Ibtida

Where to stop and where to start again so the meaning stays intact.
